About Trip:

Nepal Trekking Experts offers you a chance to join us on an adventure to one of the most remote parts of Nepal. The Lower Dolpo Trek is located in the north-western part of Nepal and starts off with a scenic 45 min. flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and from there we have a 30 min. flight to Juphal (2475m).

The Lower Dolpa Trek takes us through landscapes and a culture far different from what is seen in other regions of Nepal. The Dolpo Region lies in the shadow from the monsoon behind the mighty Dhaulagiri which is the 7th tallest mountain on the planet, towering 8167m above sea level. The geographical setting is the reason behind the area being remote and culturally preserved. The desert-like area is home to a pristine Tibetan culture and is a window to how traditions have been practiced on the top of the world centuries ago. Apart from the fascinating and humbling local we will encounter, the Lower Dolpo Trek is inhabited by a range of animals and plant life not found anywhere else in Nepal. We might encounter blue sheep, various types of deer, mountain goats, black bears and the elusive and mystical snow leopard. The trek takes us through the magnificent Shey-Phoksundo National Park, home to the spectacular Phoksundo Lake – known as one of the jewels of Dolpo.

Apart from the natural beauty of Dolpo, it is also believed by people to be home to the purest form of Buddhistic practices, and that this hidden land of the Himalayas is the most opulent region for Tibetan Buddhism. Ancient manuscripts have been found in the Dolpo Region forecasting the prophecy of Lord Buddha in Dolpo where, solitary meditation could open the doors to enlightenment. The whole region is said to have been blessed by Guru Rinpoche during the 8thcentury and was a refuge for devout Buddhist in troubled times.

The best seasons to trek Dolpo are in the spring and late-fall, but it is possible to explore the mystic and scenic region during the summer as well. Please feel free to contact Nepal Trekking Experts and let’s start planning for an adventure never seen before!
