Locked away in the remote region of Karnali, the wilderness region of Rara Lake and its coniferous forests offer a unique alternative to traditional treks in Nepal that’s more Swiss vale than precipitous mountain trails. With its crystalline waters mirroring the dramatic backdrop of snow-capped mountains, Rara Lake’s claim to being one of the most beautiful and secluded places in the world is hard to dispute – the magical scenery is frequently described as heaven on earth by many who view the serene waters for the first time.
Protected within the boundaries of Rara National Park, the lake’s surrounding pristine forests are home to a wide variety of species, including musk deer, Himalayan black bears, tahr, ghoral, snow leopards, and the captivating red panda. For those with an interest in natural beauty, wildlife and peaceful seclusion, the forested landscapes of Rara Lake offer the opportunity to experience Nepal in a totally different way to traditional treks.
